Youth Programs

Youth Action Team

–a group of individuals who work together to help out with projects or events at the club and within our community
-youth between the ages of 13 and 25 are welcome to join
-team members are required to commit to at least 5 hours of volunteering per month either with the group or at the club
-all Youth Action Team members will receive certificates after exceeding levels of hours volunteered below
-these certificates are great for portfolios and resume building

*note – anyone over the age of 16 will be required to complete a criminal reference check (please contact Tamara for further details) 

Levels
Bronze – 100 hours
Silver – 500 hours
Gold – 1000 hours

Leader in Training Program
-offered during March Break and Summer Break
-available for youth ages 13 to 17 years
-program meets once per week throughout the summer months to develop personal/professional skills
-participants are required to volunteer as Junior Counsellors for a minimum of two weeks throughout summer (max 9 weeks)
-participants are required to submit resumes no later than end of January if interested in March Break program
-summer applicants must submit resumes by end of April

Resume Building and Job Search
-available for youth and adults 13+ years
-computer and internet access available Monday through Friday 9-3pm and 8-10pm for job searching
-youth coordinator is available by appointment to critique resumes, assist with job searching, and provide mock interviews
-free service for members

Educational Scholarships


Are you looking to continue your education after high school? Don’t let the growing costs of tuition stand in your way: ask how we can help. We support, foster, and encourage life-long learning by offering a variety of educational scholarships to youth members. Thousands of dollars are awarded to Club youth every year to continue their education in colleges, universities, and apprenticeship programs. For more information or eligibility criteria contact the Club. Applications available the beginning of March 2010.


Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club
announces the Brian Melo Scholarship

Brian Melo, Canadian Idol Winneer, in front of the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys' and Girls' Club

Our own, Brian Melo, the Canadian Idol winner, an alumni of Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club, visited the club on Friday October, 12, 2007.

During his visit, the new Brian Melo Scholarship was announced.

The Scholarship will cover guitar lessons, vocal lessons, and music lessons for Boys and Girls Club members who otherwise would not be able to afford lessons on their own.
